Our clients

We have acted for wine trade clients from all over the world, including:

  • one of the ten biggest wine producers in the world
  • one of the Old World 's biggest exporters to the UK
  • numerous other wine producers throughout the world
  • numerous UK agents/distributors, including some of the major players.

We frequently receive instructions or referrals from wine producers' trade associations in producer countries. We represented the Winemakers' Federation of Australia in its successful intervention in the landmark House of Lords case Lonsdale v Howard & Hallam Limited, which at last clarified the vexed question of how compensation for commercial agents should be assessed.

We also receive instructions or referrals from foreign lawyers who normally represent wine producers, or producer's associations, in their own jurisdictions.

Often, when we are asked to advise on issues between a producer and its UK agent, distributor or JV partner, the other party remains unaware of our involvement.  The fact that we have advised a particular producer or importer — or been involved in a particular transaction or dispute — could be a commercially sensitive disclosure. For that reason we have a strict policy of not identifying individual producer or importer clients to other parties. We will gladly ask some of our clients to provide confidential testimonials if required.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a specific query.
